Blade Runner

Synopsis

In the future, there are androids that have been trained to think for themselves. However, because of that, they realized they were slaves and revolted wiping most of them out. All the leftover of that version are illegal and Blade Runner's are sent to "retire" them.

Review

Man, a young Harrison Ford. He is so good in this movie, minus the kissing which looks a lot like it did in Star Wars which just looks forced. It's weird. Honestly, that whole scene feels forced and honestly feels like he is manipulating her. He is better in this than Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny which I know is like 50 years later.

The story is awesome. Lots of noir intrigue and just second guessing as to who is who and what is what. The overall setting of 2019 Los Angelas is honestly in 2024 very funny. Its smoggy there, which is accurate. It doesn't rain that much, but I could for sure see pillars of fire from manufacturing plants in a different timeline. However, having recently been there on a work trip to San Francisco, I don't think I have seen more Tesla's in one place and I live near a Tesla Factory. I even heard story of people who don't let gas cars drive on their driveway since they "may leak oil".

I am not sure how I feel about the acting from most of the cast. It all seems over the top, but it was the 80s so it feels time appropriate. My major complain for a similar movie, Alien was that the quiet pieces were just too quiet. This movie doesn't have that issue. The music feels and adds so much to this movie that I am 90% sure it fueled music for games like Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

My Rating

I enjoyed the mystery of this movie. However, knowing the big question for the end of the movie does spoil it. A lot like knowing the twist of The Sixth Sense. However, Ridley Scott does a great job of showing so much environment and story in the panning shots. There is just so much that is well done in this movie that even knowing the ending and mystery it is entertaining. I'd give this an 8. I watched the directors cut and I think this might be the first time I have ever watched it start to finish not on TV so it was fun.

Parental Rating

Suggestive situations (Nudity in the final cut version), 1980s violence (One bullet makes people fly back 600 feet), and some language. Overall, it seems to be rated "R" for violence that would only make it PG-13 today. There is nothing of family value in this movie so my mom is out, but my Dad enjoys this movie. It tells a great story and Harrison Ford is a solid actor. Approved by Dad and rejected by Mom.
