Review
In the new series, this is the one that has the most outrageous movies in the series. Actually I think this might be the beginning of the crazy. There are a couple story issues. Let's start with just the predator drone. That thing was flying through tunnels, doing barrel rolls, and never missing a shot. Then you have cars being split in half by the missiles until it hits the car with Letty and Ramsey in it. Then it just pushes the car like the World's Strongest man was using it in a competition. Next let us talk about the fight between Dom and Deckard. No chance could an untrained car mechanic running on rage beat a trained Special Forces Operator who turned best assassin. This movie opens with him basically taking over a hospital against an entire platoon by himself. I almost forgot about the "Cars don't fly Dom!" tower jump scene when a grenade pushed them just the distance they needed. We won't even touch the God's Eye tool.
If you can just pretend that it isn't that egregious, then it becomes an entertaining movie about not cars. The car creations they do use for the rescue of Ramsey is entertaining. Reminds me of The Crew trailer from 2013. Then we have them rolling up in million-dollar cars, except Dom who is in a DODGE CHARGER!! You have a Bugatti Veyron, a Ferrari, and a Charger. What an insult to the surrounding cars. Please go watch Top Gear and The Grand Tour to understand that if you are not familiar.
I really do appreciate the ending that gave to Paul Walker's character. They did a couple reshoots to add some meaning to the ending that probably wasn't as heavy, but it was very well done. The love and pain they had for him is palpable to both the characters and cast.
My Rating
Even with all the items above, it is an entertaining movie. There are so terrible one lines like "The street always wins," that just make you eye roll into oblivion, but even the things that have issues make for a fun movie. It for sure shouldn't win an award or be worth you running to watch it, but there is no need to skip it. I want to give this 6, but I'm not mad at it, so I am giving it a 7.
Parental Rating
There are a lot of sexual comments throughout the movie, to the point that it feels over the top. Then you have the typical amount of language you get in these movies. The violence is there, but there isn't any real blood or gore. I can't see my parents enjoying this movie. Rejected by both.
