The story is iconic. Of course, it is. There is a reason there is something around 12 movies, 3 TV shows (at least good ones), tons of books, and some great and terrible video games. This story speaks to us and I think it is that why even today, just show of 50 years later, it is still

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

Synopsis

A pair of droids land on Tatooine with the blueprints for the Death Star while escaping the Empire. They team up with Luke, Han, and Leia to strike a critical blow to the Death Star and Darth Vader.

Review

This is exactly what I want out of a 70s movie. Action, good story, and no quiet places that just feel empty.

My chief complaint with this movie is the acting. Maybe it is the writing, but Luke just like Kylo Ren is really whiny. "But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters!" It has always bothered me. I know that Mark Hamill was young in his career at this point and isn't the best, but he has gotten better since this even by the Return of the Jedi, he is substantially better.

However, overall they do very well. I mean Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are outstanding. While I wasn't alive when this came out, I don't think they had the same issue of "Why is there a strong female" like we did with the Sequel series. Carrier Fisher just crushes it. Her presence is felt from first challenging Vader and then calling Luke short. She just speaks the truth.

The story is iconic. Of course, it is. There is a reason there is something around 12 movies, 3 TV shows (at least good ones), tons of books, and some great and terrible video games. This story speaks to us and I think it is that why even today, just show of 50 years later, it is still a great movie.

My Rating

Honestly, as I am doing this Star Wars Skywalker Saga watch through This movie is better than I remember it being. Especially since I have been watching a lot of older movies like the Alien Movie Anthology and Blade Runner, this one is better than either movie around the same time frame. This is a 9 mainly because the story pulls us all in.

Parental Rating

I talked about how often my family watched this movie in Episode 2 - The Skywalker Saga podcasts. I can vividly remember sitting behind the rocking chair playing with G.I. Joe's waiting for the scrolling text to leave. In fact, I let that play as I was getting ready for bed when watching it this time as I don't need the precursor information as I know the story. I say all this to say that I know my parents like the Original Star Wars movies. There is no language, the violence is pretty tame, and this movie has no sex in it. So green across the board and approved by both.
