Star Wars: Rogue One

When this movie first came out, I thought it was good, but not needed. Today, 9 years later, I feel the same way. However, the movie has aged very well, and I think it is better than the 6 or 7 that I would have given it years ago.

Review

When this movie first came out, I thought it was good, but not needed. Today, 9 years later, I feel the same way. However, the movie has aged very well, and I think it is better than the 6 or 7 that I would have given it years ago.

Diego Luna does really well and is the best part of this movie. He has so much growth even in this movie without the idea of Andor being a thing, his character is shown deciding that he is in control of his choices and beliefs. Combine his with the OUTSTANDING Alan Tudyk, who is one of my favorite parts of A Knights Tale, the pirate in Dodgeball and the voice of Hey Hey in Moana, you get a great buddy comedy without a lot of effort. I know someone will get mad at me for not talking about Felicity Jones, but I think the writing for her character makes ZERO sense. She was a criminal that no one believed but is then able to lead the rebellion into a fight that most didn't want. I think she does a great job, but the character growth skips some beats.

Like I said this movie is 9 years old and the wall of Jedha coming at the team is still one of my favorite bits of CGI in any Star Wars movie. It just shows so much power that you fear the Death Star. I think the later ones on Scarif look more like a nuclear blast from Oppenheimer rather than that same bit of CGI, and I am always disappointed.

My Rating

When I first started this review I gave this a 9. However, as I am finishing it a couple of days later, that is too high. I was adding two seasons of Andor and that isn't fair. However, I will say that it is better than the 6/7 I would have given it previously, and therefore it has to be an 8. The CGI is good, the story is good, and the acting is good. What isn't there to like.

Parental Rating

No language, no sex, no gore. So far we have promise. While my dad is in with both feet off the ground, there isn't any family value for this. I could argue there are a lot of morals in this movie, but no family values. I know my mom also isn't a big Star Wars fan, and so I am waffling about where she would be. I am going to say approved by both. The amount of both internal morals and ethics as well as fighting the external threat makes this a good wholesome movie. Approved by both.
