Synopsis

The Pope has died. With that comes the conclave of Cardinals who will vote for the next one. However, these godly men have plans and political ambitions of their own that are coming to the light.

Review

After watching the Harry Potter Movie Series, I was reminded of how good Ralph Fiennes is and luckily enough, this movie came out, and we see him be more than triumphant. This entire movie follows him and he just kills it. There isn't a scene where you can see him out of character.

This whole movie's plot is about the ambition of the Men of God in the Catholic Church and that includes the duplicitous actions and outright lies that comes with that. Look no further than Stanley Tucci and John Lithgow's characters. Lithgow's back and forth really stands out and reminds me of the way his character in [[The Accountant]] acted, making his character easy to dislike.

The plot is good and intriguing enough that even during the slower parts of the movie, you are still interested and want to pay attention. It also does a great job of presenting all the issues, whether internal or external, that the conclave has to work through or ignore to make a decision that affects billions of people.

My Rating

Like I said, this movie was very entertaining and has outstanding performances by everyone involved. You feel the weight of the decision, you feel that heart break of the loss that starts the whole movie. This is an 8 that could lead to a "Best Actor" or "Best Supporting Actor" award.

Parental Rating

My dad was raised Catholic, so I can imagine that some information in this movie would make him interested. My mom is a Christian woman and I think she would be interested as well even without the family component. There is no language, no sex, and some off-screen violence that leads to cuts and dust on screen. There isn't a reason to dislike this movie. Approved by both.
