Annabelle

Synopsis

After a horrific event occurs with their neighbors by a group of satanic cultist, a couple starts having supernatural events target them and their new baby centered around an old doll.

Review

This is rough. It was a hell of a start, with that peak being beat to death by a blue demon outfit like the cheer leader in Easy A and a prostetic mask. I didn't mean to put in puns in the last statement, but it is true. After the satanic cultist in the beginning, the rest of it feels cheap is lazy in the horror with only a couple scenes that meet a standard already set. However, these are beat up by the dumb looking demon.

Annabelle Willis is really outstanding in this. She is really the only one that seems to play her part above and beyond while the rest of the cast slinks by. The gentlemen that plays Father Perez also does a great job, but doesn't have a lot of screen time.

There are not a lot of CGI in this and it easy to see. There was a scene where the doll stands up is crazy, but is then ruined by the stupid demon head. There is a weirdness to this rather than a creep that just doesn't seem to fit the horror genre.

My Rating

After watching Annabelle Creation I expected a bit more, but I had to remember that this came out before that and I think the fact they got rid of the demon shows they understood how bad it was. The husband is tone deaf and just lousy. It was a slow movie and it might be I have avoided. This is a 6.

Parental Rating

Demons and blood. Satanic cultist. Nope. Nope. Nope. Rejected by both.
