The Twilight Saga

These movies have a huge nostalgic feeling for me. They are both simple and somewhat entertaining. I find myself a little more intrigued with the stories of Alice, Jasper, and Rosalie than Edward and Bella at times. These movies are at least worth watching once.

The Twilight Saga

Synopsis

Bella moves to Forks and meets the Cullens, a vampire family that doesn't feed on humans. While getting to know them, she learns that there is a destructive royalty to the vampire world and werewolves. To add more fuel to this world, she and Edward, the youngest of the Cullens, are madly in love.

So this movie is a weird guilty pleasure for me. I know it is terrible, but it entertains me. It reminds me of simpler time so it is hard for me to not rate this high. My rule is that a movie should entertain, and I think this movie achieves that.

Granted, my enjoyment from this really stems from a place of nostalgia. When you are stuck in foreign country with no way to leave a small outpost, what do you do at night? Watch crappy movies that don't mimic real life.

Out of the five movies in this series, this is my least favorite. It just screams teenage soap opera and they lean into it. Everything is a big deal and not a trait of something disturbing such as a 16 year old being so attached to someone they can't function without (We will chock that up to Vampire magnetism). It is an important movie to watch as it setups the next 3 movies, but I could do without it.

The wanna-be-date scene shows Jacob to be a narcissistic, egotistical, asshat. "I laugh at what makes weaker men vomit." I understand that he is attempting to himself to be better to Bella, but this is a bit much. This is where I think Taylor Lautner's skill starts to be tested.

This is an ok movie. Cast does a good job with what they are given. The fight scenes are decent with a bit of CGI that was noticeable, but doesn't detract too much. A "triumphant" return to better story telling. I mean that in straight sarcasm, because I can see what the movie is attempting to do when explaining the powers of Alice and Edward, but it is still wishy-washy. She can watch the future of people she chooses? All of their futures?

I will say, that if I were a vampire and had money for days, I'd buy an island too. That place was super cool. I am not sure how you get groceries with any regularity (I guess if you have money like Scrooge McDuck, then someone can drive it out to you), but that can be solved.

I like this movie. It reminds me of an early relationship where you just always WANT and need to be around your partner. It also shows the idea of finding common ground during an argument.

The building of the house, the baby being the center of focus for everyone (Probably my favorite part of Rosalie's story line is her love of the kid. She is always so excited to hang out with Nessie. Also, just like her because she is the most realistic and has the same name as my Grandmother).

90% of this movie is entertaining for one reason or another, but some of the plot holes, Superman flying, and the CGI really get under my skin. There just feels like there is no care for how it finished by the production company.

My Rating

These movies have a huge nostalgic feeling for me. They are both simple and somewhat entertaining. I find myself a little more intrigued with the stories of Alice, Jasper, and Rosalie than Edward and Bella at times. I know that there is a book from Edward's perspective and you might get more information from that, but I am not that hard pressed to read it. These movies are at least worth watching once. They ride the 7 the whole way through so you are in for some entertainment.

Parental Rating

No hard language, only the last two movies have sex scenes, and the action is nothing graphic. For the most part the rules say that they would approves these movies, but I have spoken with them and it isn't something they are interested in watching. So approved by both.
