I wanted to make sure I spoke about Anya Taylor-Joy's performance. It was incredible. Chef's kiss. Here, she makes the rest of the cast look like a high school performance. I am not saying they aren't good, they just look bad compared to Anya.

Synopsis

Review

This show was a ride from beginning to end. If they didn't do stupid things with Annette Bening's character, this could have been a 10. However, they made the typical "Woman in a Man's world" trope where she had to do cool guy standing poses. I know it is a dumb thing to harp on, but it just looked so dumb in a world where we have good representation of strong woman being their own people. Maybe it is a product of her relationship with Wayne, but that is far too much analysis for this.

The story is pretty good. I never knew exactly what was going on or could predict the big reveals until really right before. You could kind of guess the general direction, but they did a great job of hiding the next step between the episodes. What hurt the story is how they moved from action to story again. There is one scene in particular that comes to mind where the FBI is chasing Lucky and the car flips. There are 5+ cop cars following, and after she flips the car, she has a good 5 minutes in there to do her thing before the FBI shows up to the car.

Now, I wanted to make sure I spoke about Anya Taylor-Joy's performance. It was incredible. Chef's kiss. She has always been an outstanding actress as we've seen in Split, The Menu, The Gorge, and The Witch, but here, she makes the rest of the cast look like a high school performance. I am not saying they aren't good, they just look bad compared to Anya. She was breathtaking in her performance and really showed poise and character throughout the entire thing.

My Rating

Watching the trailer for this I was excited to see it. I am so glad that I watched it right after it came out. It will easily be one of my favorite shows for the year. The action was good, the story was good, but there are some gaps in logic for me that I can't get over and moved it from a perfect show. This is a 9, it was just fantastic.

Parental Rating

There is a ton of language and violence. There were some sexual suggestions, but no direct nudity or outright sex scenes. I think my Mom might watch this mainly because of the strong female performances, but my dad is out. I am going to say approved by Mom and rejected by Dad.
