Be Useful
I know next to nothing about him other than he is from Austria, was a bodybuilder before an actor, and as an actor did a lot of actions movies. Oh yeah, he was also Governor of California at some point while I lived there, I think.
The Book in 1 Sentence
"The Govenator" tells you stories from his life about how he rose above his situation to make the world a better place.
Brief Review
This book very quickly became a "No shit Sherlock" type book, but Arnold does call it out in the intro that there is nothing surprising about this book. The lessons are just rephrased statements you've heard a hundred times, but it is the stories that make them a bit different. The writing feels heavy and forceful, but that is what I have seen and would expect from Arnold.
Why I Read this book
It's "The Govenator."
In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)
There isn't a lot to this book that could not come across as egotistical or just general "Look at me" type of book. It is even written that way and spoken about in the book, but if you are like me and are just looking to learn more about him, this is a good book for that.
I know next to nothing about him other than he is from Austria, was a body builder before an actor, and as an actor did a lot of actions movies. Oh yeah, he was also Governor of California at some point while I lived there, I think. However, I knew nothing about why he came to the States, his time as a body builder, or what he did as Governor (I was there as a Marine so what the state does isn't really something I cared about).
Arnold does a good job of telling you these stories that help you to understand who he is. That was the most interesting part for me, learning about the man and how he sees himself. There are some very intriguing stories that are well linked to the lessons he is working to present.
Rating
As I said, the lessons are not something you haven't heard. Have a clear vision. Never think small. Work your ass off. Sell, sell, sell. Shift gears. Shut your mouth, open your mind. Break your mirrors. Ok, maybe the last one is a bit different, but the rest are something similar to something you've heard 100s of times in books or other media. It is how he relates them to the stories that I found entertaining. I can see how people would find this book elementary, or basic, but if you want to learn more about him from just a curiosity stance, this is a good book for it. I'll give this a 7.
