Star Wars Visions: Ronin
The Book in 1 Sentence
Samurai Sith learns to have friends
Brief Review
So this book was ok. To be frank, I had an issue with understanding some of the issues going on with the book because of the pronoun choice. Not making any political statements, but the use of the pronoun "They" made the book very confusing for me. It made the conversations hard to follow, and the story convoluted especially when bouncing between prospective.
Why I Read this book
I choose this book because I saw a short video of a duel from the TV show *Star Wars: Visions*, and it looked awesome so seeing a book about it made me curious. I haven't watched the show, but it is on my list.
In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)
Overall, the story in general was fine until the end when it just kinda tumbled into blah. *Spoilers* ahead for sure, but this whole time there is a Sith witch that can raise the dead (I KNOW this is legends, but this kind of power would make them unstoppable), but in the end it isn't her. It is someone else. Trying to be mindful and not just blow the entire ending, but it was a stretch that I felt was just dumped on the reader.
There are for sure a couple scenes/plot points/chapters that are there to meet the minimum for publishing. Specifically there is a character that somehow has "Ghost" to take back to the planet they are looking for, and they feel this calling to deliver them. They then hand said "Ghost" to a person that has been a rival now turned friend (Common troupe in this book) to deliver, and they don't do it either, but the place they drop them happens to help the plot. Makes no sense and just feels like "Oh this works because PLOT".
Overall, I enjoyed the book, but it was lackluster. The fight scenes were well described, and I could see them in my head, but the rest of it felt/sounded/read as Deus Ex Machina the entire way through.
Rating
It is a 5. Buy it if on sale, but I'd skip the full price.
