Halloween (1978)

Synopsis

Michael, an escape mental institution inmate, goes back to his home town to kill again.

Review

I know understand why I was always told that teenagers were just having sex all the time. This movie, which supposedly is a depiction of normal teenagers, having very disappointing sex based on the scene in the bedroom. I know this obviously isn't a real depiction, but it does explain a lot of what I was told growing up.

This is a classic and I can see why it would scare people... in 1978. Today, I think we are desensitized to things like this. The best thing I saw was the undertaker sit up by Michael in the background. The rest of it sets a tone of suspense that I think was lost on me.

Looking at reviews, "The Grandaddy of horror," but one of the most common things people talk about is the pace. It is a very slow movie. However, it very well shot. The cinematography is outstanding and I think I'd be more inclined to watch more of his things, but I need a bit more speed to the story.

My Rating

I get what people like about this. I get why the call it the masterclass of horror, however, I don't think it is there anymore. I know people are going to get upset, but having never watched this before, it just isn't up to what we get now. Maybe Halloween will be an what I am looking for. This is a 7.

Parental Rating

I don't think they would have liked this in 1978 and they for sure won't like it now. There is a lot of language, and a ton of language about sex that isn't very well veiled. The violence at this point is kind of tame compared to now, but it is there and graphic. Rejected by both.
