Synopsis

An "Expendable," a person who is cloned over and over again after death to do dangerous jobs, journeys to a dangerous new planet on a colony ship.

Review

This movie appears to be a faithful adaptation of the book… for the most part. There are of course something that have been added or removed, but my wife read it and said it is pretty close. My wife did say that the book felt more serious in the book where the movie for sure lighthearted.

Robert Pattinson does a great job, but his voiceover voice just rubs me the right part. It is weirdly high pitch and whiney. However, him acting against himself is where he really shines. Mark Ruffalo does a great job of playing this evil sadistic dude and I really enjoy it.

The story is pretty good and for sure inline with how, so egomaniacs would handle colonizing a new planet. Especially one that has a weirdly cute (according to my wife) and somewhat weirdly creepy. I thought it was implied that the aliens ate someone early on, but I can't remember.

My Rating

I found this to be highly entertaining. I was looking forward to it, but I wasn't sure I was going to like it which made me watch it at home. I am glad I did, I wouldn't have wanted to pay for it. It is a good movie to watch, but I am not sure whether I'd watch it again. It is a 7.

Parental Rating

There is a lot of language, so gross experimentation, some implications of sexual content, and drug use. I don't think either of my parents would watch this for content or based on the rules. It's pretty out there. Rejected by both.
