Synopsis

The story of Ted Kaczynski, the supposedly schizophrenic Unabomber, and the team that caught them.

Review

This movie, we will call it a docu-Movie is relatively boring at best. The back and forth between the two timelines makes sense for this story, but neither timeline is complete. Shailene's character being fictionalized makes perfect sense as she does some of the DUMBEST things of all time as an FBI agent. She goes onto a bomber's property to take pictures like he was going to walk out with a bomb and a sign that says "I am the unabomber." She has a telephoto lens but gets close enough to the house that she has to hide. I just couldn't stand the FBI here.

From a dialogue and story perspective, the FBI lucked into this more than a clumsy person trips on their own feet. We start this movie with them chasing a 30-year-old even though the bombs have been going off for 18 years at this point. So you are telling me a 12-18 year old has been sending bombs through the mail and walked onto 2 college campuses across the US without issue to drop them off? Come one.

With some many questions about this guy, you could have spent more time explaining how he may or may not have been schizophrenic. It is labeled the most expensive manhunt in FBI history, how so? This movie does nothing to make the FBI look good, to make Ted look good or mad, or anything at all.

My Rating

I want my 97 minutes back. I am honestly not sure what the point of this movie was, but it is boring. The dialogue is slow, the action is gone, and the "eerie rumbling" music makes it feel like it is supposed to be more horror than drama. I could and will not recommend this movie to anyone. The cast deserved better editing and writing. This is a 5, but I understand how Rotten Tomatoes critic reviews gave it a 21%.

Parental Rating

I don't remember a lot of language. There were a couple risqué scenes, but nothing crazy. I am going to say rejected mainly because I don't think they'd get through the first 20 minutes without turning it off because it is bad.
