Daredevil: Born Again

Season 1 Synopsis

Years have passed since Daredevil and the team is devastated as Bullseye comes back to extract his revenge. As the following years go by, Matt Murdock must decide to dawn the mask again as a serial killer and the Kingpin are making moves against the city.

Season 1 Review

This show has felt like a drawn out drama at times, and others it has felt like a comic book action show with an over the top amount of gore. I am not saying the gore bothers me, I am just saying that amount that is flying off each person as they get hit is about 100x more than it should be. Feels like the movie 300 with arcs of blood flying around. This is especially true in the last episode of Season 1.

The acting was excellent. I think Charlie Cox has brought another level to Daredevil's character from the show. We get to see some internal debate as well as the weight of the lies starting to pile up. The rest of the cast is decent. I like Vincent D'Onofrio's change up in the character. From a man of vision, to a man of ambition. His final scene is crazy.

Where I think this season doesn't do as well is some of the fight scenes. There is an obvious change to the fighting with the addition of CGI to the point they look rubber bands at times. When he isn't in the suit, the fight scenes are more grounded. There is a scene early in the season where he should have broken the guys neck, but he shows up in the next episode with a black eye. It makes no sense.

My Rating

With season 1 being over, I am enjoying the show. I do not think it is nearly as good as what critics are giving it. The acting is what puts it there, the story is good, but the fighting which is what put Daredevil on the map (The hallway fight scene and the jail fight scene) are not nearly as good. In my opinion some of them are huge detraction. The final fight is my favorite by far. I want to give it a 7, but the acting is very good, so I am going to give it an 8.

Parental Rating

Where the Netflix Daredevil had a lot more "coffee," the Disney Daredevil still avoids that. The violence in this is turned up to 11 as Muse is painting with blood just like the Punisher does, but in a legitimate meaning. There is some language and I think it is more language than previous. I know my mom will not watch or enjoy this. My dad I think would be interested in watching it. So rejected by Mom and Approved by Dad.
