Review

This is so hoke watching it now as compared to how cool it was in 2008. That doesn't mean that there isn't this important lesson in the movie about becoming more, but maybe that was what this movie said to me when it came out. Maybe it still resonates with me that way.

The action is just fun. The wild bullet bending, curving, and outrageous shots that are miles away. You have a pre X-Men Origins Wolverine and Deadpool bullet slicing and defending with knives. You have crazy car chases where cars are flipped into buses and trains. Cars are flipped over one another so they can take out a target. Just wild things. That is the point of the movie thought to just be fun I think.

I forgot that this was James McAvoy. It is his voice in this movie that I use for sarcasm mostly. It was very annoying. However, I think we see the great actor he would become and most of the issue is with direction or writing. It is hard to see some of this. I think Angelina's character is my favorite. Not because of the way they made her look badass, but because of her devotion to the belief of what she was doing. When she found out that things were not as she was told, she followed the letter to ensure things didn't happen to someone else like it happened to her.

My Rating

When I watched this in 2008, I was just about to leave for the Marines and the idea that some doormat could become something more. That is the underlying message here. Strip out the blood, the violence, the awful comedy, and you are left with someone wanting to believe they are meant for something more. That is why this movie sits in my head. However, watching it now, the lines that are meant to inspire or challenge you are grossly overplayed and force-fed. Objectively, this is a cool movie, but as MythBusters proved, its crap. For nostalgia and entertainment purposes, I'd give it an 8. Really though, the dialogue is beyond rouge. The action and plot armor is too much. This is a 6, but a fun 6.

Parental Rating

There is nudity, an insane amount of language for an action movie, and violence that goes beyond gory such as in X and just moves to stupid and comedic. However, those reasons are reasons that will make it easy to know where my parents stand on this. I know for certain my Dad hated this movie back in the day. Rejected by both.
