Annabelle Comes Home

Synopsis

A babysitter for the Lorraine's daughter has her friend over while babysitting. That friend has heard the stories of what they do and collect, only to interact with the doll making that night a night to be forgotten.

Review

I think if you watched this first, it would be better. Mainly because we get a lot of the same bits from the previous 2 movies directly associated with the doll, Annabelle and Annabelle Creation. We have the doll just chilling and things happening around it. There are some cool new pieces, like the spinning color wheel and the ferryman, but the rest is the same thing we've already seen.

The daughter, who plays a small role in Young Sheldon, is really good. This obviously predates that role, and I see why she got it. She plays a great smart kid. The babysitter is the weak part in this honestly. She feels dull, and I don't mean that in her acting as much as her reactions/actions. They feel just so tampered.

The tricks and CGI are fine. Other than the one spinning light I mentioned, I am not sure I felt like they did anything significant. Most of it was tricks of the light rather than anything particularly interesting and maybe that is because of just how slow this movie felt.

My Rating

I wanted to like this movie. I think the premise of the friend just wanting to see her Dad again and the house being what it was makes sense. I think the girls did a fine job and I think I've seen them all again in something else. However, it just feels tired. The opening scenes with the parents brining it home and being outside the cemetery was cooler than most of the house stuff I think. It just felt repetitive. So I am giving it a 6.

Language, lots of comments about balls, and demon practices. Everything a pair of religious parents want. Rejected by both.
