What If...
This is an animated TV show and while I know that in the millennial and beyond generations, those are becoming more popular, I have a hard time paying attention to them. However, this show does something interesting for the first two seasons. The third season is where it falls apart.
Synopsis
The in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, just like the comics, there have been a lot of "What if X happened." This show explores that idea with episodes tying into each other to create a whole new plot line.
Review
This is an animated TV show and while I know that in the millennial and beyond generations, those are becoming more popular, I have a hard time paying attention to them. However, this show does something interesting for the first two seasons. The third season is where it falls apart.
The voice acting is top-notch. With some actual characters coming back, and other times just soundalikes, you don't ever really feel that something is missing from the Movies. The animation is cool, and I have no issues with that. In fact, in my head while watching the final two episodes, I was thinking "That is a really cool animation style for this attack."
Where this show fails tremendously is the final season. You get nothing new of value. The season is all about "The Watcher" being judged for taking action in the previous two seasons. With that we get no origins for the new repetitive characters other than "Birdy"? I know who she is based on the episodes, but I am lost how she met up with Captain Carter. Either way, this show really has the same issues as the original Superman. What is that? Well it is simply the explicit use of Deus Ex Machina. There is a problem they can't win? Ok cool, give them a new power so they can. It is annoying at best and overall, just lazy.
There were some cool standout episodes, but those mainly reside in the first two seasons, like the zombie episode.
My Rating
I watched this because I like the MCU. However, as a standalone show, there isn't anything substantial about it. No great music, no great story, no great acting. Without the MCU, this show would be a dud. With that last season being so lazy, I am going to take a point away and overall give this a 7.
Parental Rating
They won't watch this. "Cartoons" are not their thing. However, based on the rules, Mom is out due to the lack of family content. Dad approves based on the rules as there is limited language, no sex, and no blood or gore. However, my dad is never going to watch this, so I am going to say rejected by both.
