Synopsis

Thor, the God of Lightning from Norse Mythology is cast out of Asgard after an ambitious, but instigating attack. While on Earth, his brother makes a play for the throne.

Review

Much like Captain America The First Avenger, this has some good moments, but mostly some boring setup. It takes this movie and The Avengers for Thor and Loki to feel real in my opinion.

What this movie does do really well is present the scale of the fights. From the Ice Giants, the Destroyer, or the fights with Loki and Thor, you get a really good feeling of the epicness of them. There is also some nice levity, while out of place it is still funny, during the fights that make the fights feel more real, but less weighty.

The acting is pretty good. I can't imagine anyone else playing these characters now. Especially with Natalie Portman making a comeback in Thor Love and Thunder, you can feel the chemistry between each of them. I really like the Kat Dennings and Natalie Portman. It very much feels like some of the teaching assistants I have seen or had while an adjunct professor and the generational gap.

My Rating

As much as this is an origin story and I don't like those, I like the comedy in this one more than Captain America The First Avenger. However, it is a pretty one dimensional story that is highly predictable. It is still entertaining, but it isn't great. Maybe this is what I should have seen coming in Thor the Dark World, but I didn't at the time. This is a 7.

Parental Rating

This isn't their jam. Out of ALL the Marvel movies, the Thor ones would be the one they are most against just from a philosophy standpoint. I mean the whole thing is that there are gods outside the Holy Trinity. Outside that the language is light, no sex, and the violence only creates dirt and scratches. Based on the rules, my dad approves and… I am not sure if my mom would or wouldn't. It is about family, but there is no resolution. I am going to say rejected by mom.
