Thor The Dark World

Synopsis

Dark Elves, an ancient people who were cast aside by Asgardians eons ago, are active again after the "Ether" has been found. The Dark Elves race to control it, while Thor races to stop them from plunging the universe in darkness.

Review

It took me a couple of days to get through this movie. It drags by, and I think the "Dark Elves" putting the universe into "Darkness" is a little on the nose. Norse Mythology accurate? I don't think it is that direct in the old world.

As for the characters, I do not like what they did the Silveg. First off, he is played by a Skarsgard and deserves to be treated as such. I get why they made it happen, I just think the degree of it is more than any of the others portray and so it just feels extra. Jane is fine, Darcy is fine, Thor and Loki are solid.

For the writing that was in this movie, the cast does a excellent job. I think this is really where we start to see Tom Hiddleston as Loki really come into his own. From just being arrogant to destroyed by the death of Frigga. Actually, side tangent, Frigga's fight scene is really good. I like her fighting style. Back to Tom. He is my favorite part of this movie I think. He just feels the most real and continues from Thor and The Avengers. Everyone else kind of feels like they ignore those events.

My Rating

I want to like this movie. I think Chris as Thor is magnificent. Tom as Loki, especially after the Loki series is outstanding, and Natalie Portman will always have a special place thanks to The Skywalker Saga and Star Wars Episode II - Attack of the Clones. However, the scenes on the Svartálfheim, the Dark Elves home world, are EXCESSIVELY dark to the point you can't see the finer details. I think that the best this movie will ever get is a 7, which is a little generous, but where I will put it.

Parental Rating

Limited to no blood. No sex. Minor language. The brotherly love/fighting in support of Thor's and Loki's Mom would make my mother hopeful that my brothers and I would come together, but that is the most of what my mom would like. I do not think that she would enjoy this. While this is action oriented, my dad just wouldn't enjoy it. I just feel that in my bones. I am going to say rejected by both.
