The Mandalorian and Grogu

Synopsis

The Mandalorian, with his apprentice and son Grogu, are on the hunt for Imperial Warlords throughout the outer rim. However, a criminal organization wants to make a trade that puts them both at risk.

Review

I have no idea how people can say that this was a bad movie from a watcher's perspective. Does it add anything to the lore? Not really. Does it add to the characters? Incredibly. We do get some aspects that make no sense from the Star Wars history as far as I know and that can be frustrating, but this was an action packed, family friendly movie.

There is so much action in this and it all pushes the plot forward. There are some parts that feel cheesy and just more run-of-the-mill, but you still have some great scenes that keep you involved. We see a lot of the same style of explosions and twisting blaster-fu that we have in The Mandalorian, but it is still fun. There is one scene in the movie where Mando is fighting these Tie-fighters (I think) and he does this spin that just visually looks the "6th-Gen fighters" in Top Gun Maverick.

One of the things that really struck my wife as harrowing and concerning is this arc in the middle. There is a section of the movie where Grogu has to be on his own. This was easily one of the most grounding parts of the movie. It was incredibly well done, and I can understand weight of it. It was incredible. Objectively though, there is one joke that, while funny, just feels forced and takes you out of the weight that I just talked about.

Last note I almost forgot about. The bounty hunter and the old battle droids looked awesome. Hands down one of the better looking character designs in a long time.

My Rating

I cannot express how much I enjoyed and loved this movie. Being able to experience it with my Wife made it 1000000x better. We laughed together, we got to rewind and watch Grogu raise his hands in glee at times, and just live in this universe. I also really appreciated the callbacks to Yoda in Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. It really brought in this full circle moment. My biggest complaint is Sigourney Weaver. She and all the pilots with her were 60+. It makes no sense for the "Rising New Republic." They should have given that spot to Paul Sun-Hyung Lee who was in the show. Give the man his dues. I just think that it can be really jarring to now see anyone of a young age in the New Republic. Maybe that is part of the commentary? I am not sure, but it did feel weird. That and some of the forced comedy is what takes this from a perfect movie to a 9. But I will absolutely watch it again.

Parental Rating

Easiest decision I will ever make. Incredibly cute, funny, and no language. Not even a Dank Ferrik. I know my mom and dad have no reason to watch this, but if they did they would really enjoy it. Approved by both.
