The Mandalorian
The same can be said for Moff Gideon. I know he is important, but that dude has more plot armor than any of character of all time. He also just cheats and his fights never feel like they are in balance. Even when it swings back to the good guys winning, it just feels like "the plot said so."
Synopsis
Follow the Mandalorian, a bounty hunter in the outer rim, finds that one of his bounties is an innocent child. However, saving the child opens his life to a fight against his own people and the recently destroyed Empire.
Review
So I finally watched this with my wife and that was the best part. Watching her get excited to see Baby Yoga, Grogu, was just so much fun. I think that this show is a great entry into the Star Wars universe. And at the same time, it isn't. There are so many things in this show that have so much weight when you know the rest of the story. From why the Empire is hiding, the importance of the cloning, the IG droid, the armor, the red guard at the end, and the ships. There are a lot that add so much weight to this show.
The story itself is excellent. There are some episodes that that give you the feeling of "this is a filler episode" and they can suck. However, at the same time so of those have such good payoffs in the end. There is a criminal that The Mandalorian teams up with for a mission at one point, and then they come back to help him take on the Empire later on. The characters that were brought in or created for this series are so good. I love that Happy from Iron Man, Jon Favreau, gets the play a Mandalorian. I love that Bryce Dallas Howard directed some episodes. In my memory, the only character that had so much screen time and I couldn't figure out why, was the Imperial Spy, Katy O'Brian. She does a great job, but I think her character got too much time. The same can be said for Moff Gideon. I know he is important, but that dude has more plot armor than any of character of all time. He also just cheats and his fights never feel like they are in balance. Even when it swings back to the good guys winning, it just feels like "the plot said so."
The action is outstanding through and through. Each group has their own fighting style, and you don't think much of it until you see Grogu doing the knee slide while using the force. It is incredible. Just watch the opening cantina scene and you will be hooked. If you need a second, watch the end of season 2.
My Rating
This show is easy favorite. There are issues, but I think Dave and Jon did a great job of seeing that and then fixing it in the show. They also tell an unbelievable story that allowed for others such as The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka. I know all of this really comes from the Clone Wars TV series, but I never watched it. This is a cute, action-adventure show that really helps point toward people overcoming differences and difficulties. It is a 9 for me.
Parental Rating
In the first season, I feel like there was a lot more edgyness that trickled away as seasons went on to allow for more kids to watch it since Grogu got more popular. There is some violence, but you never see any blood. There is also no sex and I think the implied sexual content such as dancers is only an episode or two. While the content isn't really something they would watch, I think based on the rules it matches both of them. Approved by both.
