The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
With the weight of those moments, I do feel like it is glossed over with these comedic buddy comedy moments that have a much more prominent feature in the show. One that I am not sure was needed over and over again. It makes these moments that are supposed to be so important, brushed aside.
Synopsis
After the return of everyone after the blip in Avengers Endgame, the world is trying to restore borders which a terrorist organization, The Flag Smashers, has problems with. While dealing with that, new Captain America takes the stage and he is not Steve.
Review
This show is for sure a lot deeper than most MCU items. Much like WandaVision and itβs conversation about grief, there is a deep conversation about the politics of being 4 billion people back after 5 years, and the social and cultural aspects that existed years ago that still play a part of American society. I am not saying woe is them or anything like that, but I am saying that there is some racist people out there that will do anything for their specific race, no matter what race they are.
With the weight of those moments, I do feel like it is glossed over with these comedic buddy comedy moments that have a much more prominent feature in the show. One that I am not sure was needed over and over again. It makes these moments that are supposed to be so important, brushed aside. The biggest one that comes to mind is with Wyatt Russell kills someone with the shield, which has had to happen before, and it is record/live-streamed. There is blood dripping from the shield and that is how the episode ends. The next episode the opening is the aftermath, but as soon as he leaves the courthouse, we are back to fun and games. This moment, which should have been gut-wrenching, just felt more like a plot moment, than the 1000lb (ca. 454 kg) burden it should have been.
Honestly, Wyatt's character is so annoying to me. He is beyond arrogant and feels like the rich white kid who always gets what he wants. Maybe that is what they wanted, but if this man really had 3 Medals of Honor, he would have been sidelined. Also for him to nonchalantly brush aside diving on a grenade, really diminishes the selflessness that was Steve. I do believe that was the point, but they never did anything to make him an anti-hero, trying to set up Thunderbolts*, but merely made him a selfish prick.
My Rating
Wyatt's US Agent aside, I enjoyed this show. There are some things that were plot points that have been dropped in the greater MCU, probably for good reason since we got crap like Secret Invasion coming in Marvel Phase 5. The show is entertaining and brings up deep issues that are happening in this world. When I first watched this, I didn't really feel the urgency of the issue, but this time I did, and I am not sure what that means. There is good action, but it is unbalanced. Things that did kill one person later in the season, don't kill others in the beginning of the season. It feels like a buddy comedy trying to have an important role in the world, which it misses that mark completely. I wanted to give this an 8, but I couldn't after really thinking about it and the issues that it has. A second rewatch to understand shouldn't raise the review mark. This is a 7.
Parental Rating
There is violence. Quite a bit of it toward innocent, well unarmed individuals. There is a decent amount of language for Disney+ show. There is no nudity or references to sex. I also think that the deeper impacts of this show will be completely lost on them speaking they haven't really gotten into the MCU. I am going to say rejected by both, but barely for my Dad.
