Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker

Synopsis

The last of the Resistance must face off against the threat that has been hiding in the shadows that is more powerful than the First Order ever dreamed it could be.

Review

I don't hate this movie at all. I know Palpatine coming out of nowhere bothers people, but it had to happen. Outside this movie or the movie series, there were a couple of books and video games that talked about the plans laid by the Emperor that lead to this. However, if you don't know this, I see it being a bit of whiplash and just frustrating.

If you take that out, and you keep in mind the influence that [[Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi left behind and how much had to be fixed to make sense, the story is so good. JJ Abrams did a great job just pulling the story back together after the hard right-hand turn. It isn't perfect for sure, but it tells an entertaining story. I have an issue with the horse things running on the ship. I have an issue with the whole Finn has the force thing. Lastly, I also have an issue with the festival in the desert planet and EVERYTHING that happened there. "Oh they fly now?" Really dumb line.

With all of that, I think everyone did a decent job. I really like Daisy and Adam Driver's chemistry and how they play off each other. It feels real.

Lastly, the special effects have to be talked about. They did a great job of showing so much more than any of other movies in my opinion. There is just some really cool CGI that doesn't look terrible. I am a big fan.

I forgot about the title, and remembered when I was uploading it to the site, so I need to talk about that. "Rey Skywalker." Absolutely stupid. Not sure where they were going with it, but I understand the idea that in this world the name "Jedi" is both good and bad so if you start something different you can decide what it means. However, the line is atrocious.

My Rating

For this to be the end of the Skywalker Saga, this was a great way to end it. A refresh of characters for a new generation of people to get into Star Wars. A decent movie with good special effects. It didn't do well, but I like it. I am giving this an 8.

Parental Rating

This is all about the choice of family. Again no language, no sex, and clean violence (i.e., no gore). On the rules, they approve, but just like the last ones I don't know if they'd like this movie. I will have to ask.
