Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones

Ok, romance story and CGI woes out of the way. The cast does really well playing their characters. You can see the edges getting frayed and the mentality that will lead him to become Vader. That is really what these movies are about. The rise of Vader and his tyranny.

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones

Review

Rewatching this is crazy as an adult that writes these reviews. I was thinking while watching this how much I enjoyed this as a kid, but as an adult you can see so many flaws.

I harped on the CGI for Star Wars Episode I and it is even worse in this. There are multiple scenes where they were using a CGI background, and you could see a blue halo around the cast in the scene. It was just bad at times. The evidence of CGI while tempered in the last movie is honestly on full display throughout the film and can at times really pull you out of it.

Along with things that are "weird" is Anakin's language and interaction with Padmé when they are alone. I can remember as a kid that he was being honest and direct, all the things my mom told me to be when talking to the girls I liked. However, as an adult watching this, that directness appears to be manipulative and obsessive. Padmé isn't out of the woods on this either. Her clothing choices would make any man whimper, and then she implies that things would be different if life was different. Anakin was willing to throw it all away for her, and at times I feel like she used that. However, all of these things aside the end of the movie shows that it was legitimate for them. Each of them were honest how they felt and made an effort for each other. Also, I know Natalie Portman is in the first movie, but according to the script she is 14 and Jake Lloyd's Anakin was 10. So the age gap isn't as terrible as you think.

Ok, romance story and CGI woes out of the way. The cast does really well playing their characters. You can see the edges getting frayed and the mentality that will lead him to become Vader. That is really what these movies are about. The rise of Vader and his tyranny. Ewan becomes Star War Jesus in this movie. I am not lying, look at the picture.

My Rating

This movie is entertaining. It is telling a large love story and really setting up the next one, but it did bring in the clones are they are awesome. Jango Fett's pistol is awesome and some sound design are just so cool. There are some great things to this show, but the CGI is so bad at times that is really is distracting. The love story is part of it, but not so much that it is distracting. The lightsaber and clone fight near the end are great and who doesn't love Yoda doing flips to beat an old man. I want to make it an 8, but I think that it is a 7. It needed a bit of love.

Parental Rating

Just like the previous one, no sex, language, or gory violence. However, this is pushing their enjoyment of movies. There is no real substance to the movie and the action is so interspaced that my dad is out. There is no family oriented content, so my mom is out. Rejected by both.
