Review
This review takes places after the second season, talking about both of the seasons, and there will be no other reviews in the future. If it stays true to form then I won't add anything. If something crazy happens then I'll add a note in the future.
Logistics out of the way, I really like this show. The first season follows the first book completely and I can only assume the second season follows the 13th book pretty well. Overall, the team does a fantastic job of playing their characters and I really appreciate the intermittent character development throughout the series.
I will say that the fighting is pretty close to what would happen for a guy that big. He would use that sheer power and can't run for crap. Alan Ritchson does a fantastic job of playing Jack from the books.
Where I think this show did a disservice to the books and character is not continuing the idea of the loner that he is. In the books, what makes him a what he is is this idea that he doesn't want to get involved, but he is just a guy doing the Lord's work because he is in the wrong place at the wrong time. With this new season he goes from that loner to surround by old teammates that care for him and he cares for them. I feel you miss the emotional pain point that this is because he was only alone for a month or so. You don't get beat at all. They are just there.
My Rating
This is probably one of the better book turned TV/Movies you will ever watch. Follows the story so well that all the major parts are there. Having watched and read the first season/book within a couple weeks of each other, I felt there was a great story in both and just a great seamless story in them. This is one of the shows I look forward to and will be sad when it finishes, but at the same time I watch this and want to read the books which is what any show should do. This is a solid 8 with some minor things that don't really matter, but they add up.
Parental Rating
Language is minimum. Sex is a little more than suggested, but no nudity or actions other than making out. Violence is there with graphic depictions of death, injury, and blood. The story is good and is about doing the right thing no matter the option. My Dad approves and I am not sure about my mom. I am going to say Disapproved mainly because it just doesn't have a more wholesome family vibe. I mean at the end of an episode he says he wants to throw someone out of a helicopter.
