Now You See Me Now You Don't
This movie was pure fan service. I think it closed the loop of the characters and the story without forcing a new movie. The story also works and bring to light a quasi-legitimate issue about diamond prices being woefully inflated and there is most likely an incredible surplus.
Synopsis
The Horsemen are once again coerced into righting a wrong by a diamond heiress's schemes with the help of a group of young magicians.
Review
This movie was pure fan service. I think it closed the loop of the characters and the story without forcing a new movie. The story also works and bring to light a quasi-legitimate issue about diamond prices being woefully inflated and there is most likely an incredible surplus. Then you add in the cultural destruction and you get a good sense of the issue. There are some issues with the actions of the people and some plot issues too.
The biggest plot issue for me is thing just worked perfectly. There was a pipe in the right spot to save the team. A kid knew how to drive an F1 car. Finally, the bodyguard and the villain are just oblivious. Which is why the same tricks just keep working. Granted the movie does call that out specifically near the end talking about how they built the tricks. I can't tell you from a character perspective how annoying the new lead kid is. I am going to assume that these mannerisms and physical actions were character choices, not a limitation of the actor themselves. A for instance is that he walks with his shoulder rolled forward like he is wearing a backpack when there isn't one. There is also just the vocal mannerisms, especially when he is talking the the main lady at the end the are grossly inappropriate for a character who has been a typical Gen Z which was an entire argument in the movie between the old team and the new team. Then he magically, pun intended, is able to know how to drive an F1 car. I know it isn't an actual one and he probably isn't the one actually driving, but his character supposedly did.
I think the rest of the team really shows growth through all of the movies and that is my favorite part of this. You can see the frustration with each other, the concern, and the love across the board. The new kids have a similar feel, but there really is this one upmanship that shows incredible immaturity. Something just really rubs me the wrong way about them and it might just be the lead kid. Maybe I am just the old guy yelling at kids on my lawn. I also like how they explained Henley's absence in the previous movie. It was a nice bow.
My Rating
It was a fun movie. It isn't good, you aren't seeing anything ground breaking, and you'll laugh at the jokes. Well some of them. I am really glad I didn't see this in theaters as it isn't worth today's theater prices. I understand why people gave this a 6 or so, but it is a fun movie, so I am giving it a 7. Not much better, but it is something.
Parental Rating
There is very limited language honestly. A couple bullshit's but that is really the most of it. There is not sexual commentary or anything along those lines. The violence is limited for sure. It is a pretty light hearted movie and so I am going to say approved by both.
