Marvel Phase 2

Iron Man 3

Mom has a conditional approval of having watched the first two. While I think she wouldn't object, I think what would make her approve requires her to know Tony's growth. So that means she would have to watch Iron Man and Iron Man 2, maybe even The Avengers. That is a hard ask.

I really enjoy this movie. The scenes dealing with anxiety and PTSD, to the action of fighting and the story built are full. There really isn't a true miss. Some miss-adjacents, but a solid movie.

Thor the Dark World

I do not like what they did the Silveg. First off, he is played by a Skarsgard and deserves to be treated as such. I get why they made it happen, I just think the degree of it is more than any of the others portray and so it just feels extra. Jane is fine, Darcy is fine, Thor and Loki are solid.

I want to like this movie. I think Chris as Thor is magnificent. Tom as Loki, especially after the Loki series is outstanding, and Natalie Portman will always have a special place. However, the scenes on the Svartálfheim, the Dark Elves home world, are EXCESSIVELY dark to the point you can't see the finer details.

Captain America The Winter Soldier

The action is also outstanding. The scene where The Winter Soldier catches the shield is crazy. When I first watched in theaters, I remember the audible gasp and just being "Oh shit." Between that and the scenes of attempting to stop the Helicarriers is just very well done.

You can't not enjoy this movie. It is probably one of the movies that everyone compares the rest of the MCU to. This peak of the series and just a genuinely enjoyable movie. The CGI is very limited and doesn't distract, the action is good, the acting is good. This is just "on your left" of a perfect movie.

Guardians of the Galaxy

This is where Chris Pratt came onto the map and honestly in such a good way. I know that people will say Parks and Rec, but they are wrong. His comedy might have brought him to the table, but this performance put him on the map.

This is peak James Gunn. Far better than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Episode 12 - Superman in my opinion. I think most people would agree, but I wanted it down for the record. It is really fun and whitty. The jokes just hit, and you will be entertained the entire way though.

Avengers Age of Ultron

Not a lot of language, which is funny speaking that this is the movie where cap acts like my dad and says "Language" which is the best joke in the movie. No sex. Violence is against robots which some exceptions at the end.

This is the weakest performance in the series so far. Weird writing for the main team, and some banger lines from the bad guy. Action is a repeat of everything we have seen already and other than an infinity stone introduced, we really don't get much more out of it.

Ant-Man

I really like the CGI and slapstick comedy in this. I think it is because of the blend of practical and CGI combined from the tiny and full size perspective. The scene of them fighting on the Brio Thomas the Tank Engine train set, which honestly the fact that I pulled that name from memory is amazing.

I find this movie to be funnier than the others in Marvel Phase 2 in a slapstick format. It just really hits me even after watching multiple times. It is the right amount of funny and serious.

My Rating

I know I gave Guardians being an 8, but I don't think about it. Have rewatched this, I'd say that out of the 6 movies, only 3 of them have sat with me. Iron Man 3, The Winter Soldier, and Ant-Man. This is not really a good scale either as Iron Man 3 isn't well liked. I think with the misses the phase is only a 7. I am close to giving it a 6, but The Winter Soldier is outstanding.
