Kraven The Hunter

Synopsis

During a hunt for a legendary Lion, Sergei is injured by said lion, but saved by a girl with a special healing concoction. Waking up and leaving his criminal family, he makes a name for himself hunting criminals. However, one of them is fighting back.

Review

I see why this movie killed the Sony spider-villain world. I also see why people still watch it. I think that Aaron Taylor-Johnson did a decent job. Actually I think he did probably just as well in this as he did in Gladiator II. He is the best part of this movie. Speaking of Gladiator II, the crazy emperor is the brother of Kraven. Nice to see them work together again.

EDIT 2025/01/23: It was brought to my attention that Aaron Taylor-Johnson was not in Gladiator II. That was Paul Mescal. My bad.

What hurts the Gladiator continuation is this weird world we live in where they keep asking Russell Crowe to do accents. This wasn't any better than him doing a "Greek" accent in Thor Love and Thunder. I don't like him in this movie, he feels like an actor playing rather than an actual Russian which I can picture quite a few that would have been awesome.

The story isn't bad, but full of meh moments. I think the biggest issue is that everything feels rushes and there is no depth to anything. We don't get a montage of him rebuilding the camping spot/home, we don't get anything about how he became "The Hunter" other than he does things no one else has. Lastly, the CGI with him is the same crap that was in Morbius and just looks weird after the MCU. I mean, at times he is climbing walls without his legs and some background guards are CGI. However, it does follow the DCEU CGI style. Overall, the story is just lack luster and there really is no character growth for anyone.

Also, the scene where the Rhino makes the weird noise is stupid. I think that is why a lot of people don't like it over all. It has a lot of these stupid points. Another example, the Helicopter pull.

My Rating

I was entertained. However, I stopped watching with 22 minutes left to go hang out with the wife. I wasn't upset or rushing to finish it. It was fine, and the final fight was kind of boring. It would make a great airplane movie. I think it is a 6, but I enjoyed it.

Parental Rating

There is a lot of blood, violence, and language. Also, the content isn't anything that really their thing. I think that my mom would 100% reject this as it isn't her thing. My dad has and would watch this just to be entertained. Approved by Dad.
