Carrie (2013)
One of the issues that I really felt was off was a scene where Carrie lifts a bunch of furniture and her Mom when arguing about the dress. All the items come slamming down. There is a bunch of noise in the sound design, but a stack of coasters are perfectly nestled together after a 6-foot drop

Review
Now this is a good remake. The cast did an outstanding job, the story is well told, and the CGI isn't horrible, but there are some issues for sure.
I really like the cast here. Chloe felt natural in her role and Portia felt like the selfish jerk she played in Mr. Robot. Perfect role. I know I just talked about Judy Garland, and I think she was ok in this. I don't think she really made much of an effect either way to the class. Gabriella as Sue was ok as well. I think she is the most believable Sue we have gotten in 3 movies thought, so props to that.
One of my biggest gripes with the Carrie - 2002 movie was the horrible CGI. I know it came out in 2002, but it is bad. This one is much better, but still just feels off. One of the issues that I really felt was off was a scene where Carrie lifts a bunch of furniture and her Mom when arguing about the dress. All the items come slamming down. There is a bunch of noise in the sound design, but when they cut back to Mom on her knees, the items behind her are perfectly arranged. There is a stack of coasters, and they are perfectly nestled together after a 6-foot drop. It's small, but it does great issue.
I talked about the Carrie and her stiff movement in the last one, so let me talk about the facsimile of the Wanda movements from Avengers Age of Ultron or WandaVision. Chloe moves her hands in a way that feel more silly at times, but I think visually it feels better. It isn't this a splash of noise and people are flying around or whatever. So it feels like a copy, but I think it is better, just too much at times.
My Rating
While watching this movie, I caught so many direct line-for-line copies of scenes to the point that I am almost positive they were contractually required to be there or have significance in the book. They feel so much better in this movie and the relationship between the mom and Carrie is more contentous. I also felt like this one had a lot more modern horror elements that added the Mom to be scary in her own right. The story telling in this is much better than either of them previous two movies as we get some great visual storytelling and more time with characters to explain their decision-making. If I were to tell people about this Carrie, I'd have them start here. It is also light on the horror so it is easy for new horror people to get into. I want to give this an 8, but that might be because of how bad Carrie - 2002 is. So I think I will give this a 7.
Parental Rating
There is only sex scene, and it still isn't as prolonged as the car scene in the original Carrie - 1976. That plus the violence to the pig and the language means that both of my Parents are out. There is also still a couple of camera shots that are very voyeuristic that don't need to be there. Rejected by both.
