Carrie (2002)
This version of the story spends so much extra time on everything. Slow walks through the hallways. Indecisions on what to do. How to search for something in the library. Her doodling in her notebook and the way people stare at her. Everything just feels like it took too long.
Synopsis
A girl from a religious home is bullied at school and is pushed to the edge as her telekinetic powers take over.
Review
Well, no I remember why early 2000s movies were hated. The camera looked like it needed to be cleaned as it was hazy everywhere. The camera angle decisions give this an ABC Family made-for-TV movie aesthetic that really does more to pull you from what is going on than it does to pull you in. Even when they do multiple closer shots when someone repeats themselves.
The cast is… ok at best. Again we have a lot of random people just slapping the hell out of Carrie and no one thinks otherwise about it. Her mom, which is the mom from Easy A, is probably the best part, but the dialogue/writing is so inconsistent that I’m not sure if I am just being nice. Why in 2002 did they basically have a character that was based on the shooters from Columbine, we will never know. Then you have Angela Bettis who constantly just stands still. She had the most on screen time, but the least amount of movement. I don't know why she never moves her arms but it made it look even worse. Like a middle school production where the kid doesn't know what to do.
This version of the story spends so much extra time on everything. Slow walks through the hallways. Indecisions on what to do. How to search for something in the library. Her doodling in her notebook and the way people stare at her. Everything just feels like it took too long. Every establishing shot is about 1-2 minutes which in turn means that the move is 45 minutes too long.
My Rating
I haven’t even gotten to the crap CGI. For god sake we have meteors flying into the home and no one seems to think about it after the event. The mother spouts some wild lies like breast only are given to people who sin. There is just so much wrong in this movie that when the Principal who is crap, manages to do something cool to a parent who thinks they can get their way, it doesn’t matter because some how and entire gym of people gets electrocuted by standing water, but the water couldn’t put out the fire. I almost turned this movie off at the meteor scene. It was terrible. This movie is a 3. Never watch it.
Parental Rating
There was no reason for them to watch it. At least there wasn’t nudity, but again the camera angles in the shower give you creepy gym teacher vibes so, gross. The blood that is shown is terrible, but still a no-go for mom. Rejected by both.
