Zero Day
It was a catastrophe of epic proportions in living up to that. Investigating these types of events is what I do for a living, and so I wanted it to be good, but talk about doing the bare minimum to make the language right and tossing it aside.
Synopsis
After a cyberattack brings the United States to its knees, former U.S. President is called in to run a commission to investigate the threat. However, they may be a more physical threat than expected.
Review
This started off very interesting and somewhat within the realm of true possibility. We live in an interconnected world and I can completely understand this idea of everything going down at once being a scary event.
The biggest disappointment in the story is the lack of fulfillment in any of the stories presented in the first two episodes. A Russian plot, a homegrown terrorist cell, and a possible mind-altering weapon. The pay-off for these plot lines are throwaways and never really give you what they promise.
Robert is fine. It isn't anything that speaks to his ability, and honestly the only thing I learned was that he can't swim. As for his character, the quick switch from "Man of high moral fiber" to "You know what, torture the dude that has been talking bad about me on the news" is so jarring that it doesn't make sense with whom they set up before and who he is supposed to be later. Lizzy Caplan's character is a better person than he is, and that isn't what they intended to do.
If this was supposed to be a new Homeland or You, which it has that feeling, it was a catastrophe of epic proportions in living up to that. Investigating these types of events is what I do for a living, and so I wanted it to be good, but talk about doing the bare minimum to make the language right and tossing it aside.
My Rating
In the words of the Great British Baking Show, Master Chef, and Next Level Chef, style and no substance. This could have been an outstanding show with multiple seasons, but it failed to live up to the espionage/cyber stage it set. Rotten tomatoes, both critics and audiences gave this a 53%. That is fair and IMDB giving it a 7 is a hope and prayer. This is a 5, and I am so mad that it is.
Parental Rating
With a decent amount of language, in every episode. No direct nudity or sex, but there is a naked body that is covered. There is a lot of violence and death, to include the aftermath of a suicide. I think my Mom would watch this to understand something about what I do, but she wouldn't like it a lot. My dad wouldn't make it through the first episode. Based on the rules, rejected by both.
