Woman of the Hour
This is Anna Kendrick's first directing piece and that is the best part of this movie. The camera angles and shot are very well done. The pacing is great bouncing back and forth between current and past/future events. All really well done.
Synopsis
A young girl trying to make it in Hollywood is told she needs some exposure so she goes on the dating show. Unbeknownst to her, one of the contestants is hiding a sinister background.

The acting is good as well. I think some of it is a little heavy-handed to the point of being outrageously annoying, but I wasn't alive in the 70s and maybe that is accurate for the time. I know misogyny was a lot higher then, but it is a little crazy at times.
The worst part is the story itself. I understand it is a real story, but I feel it was billed as the actress being more a part of the take-down of the serial killer. Not just a passing exposure. That is probably the wrong word, but while the interaction the actress had is scary, it didn't do anything to help bring down the hunter. This complaint is more about how this movie's story is told. We spend a lot of time with the actress who had a passing experience, but very little time with the victims or the one that got away. I think her story would have been a better view point.
My Rating
I was really disappointed with this movie from the story perspective. Maybe it was my interpretation of the trailer, or something along those lines which is a fair possibility. It just felt like MH370 The Plane that Disappeared where someone was trying to take advantage of something to put the story line on themselves. I don't know where this story came from, and I am not saying that the cast and crew were taking advantage of the real story, but just told from the wrong lens. It is so far off base in my opinion, that I am giving this a 5.
Parental Rating
A heavy use of malicious and derogatory language will make my mom and dad not interested in this movie. It is also a little short in time so it would be hard for my dad to be interested. Since it is a 70s serial killer movie, means that there aren't a lot of nice things happening to the women in the movie so it is easy to say rejected by both.
