War Machine

This type of unlimited firing without reloading is a major no-no. This isn't [[Heat]] from the 80s. We can just fire until the Second Coming. This is nothing compared to the absolutely lazy writing in initially calling Alan's character a Staff Sergeant during INDOC and then a Corporal at the end.

War Machine

Synopsis

During the final training mission for the Army Rangers, an alien robot lands forcing the team to join the most unbelievable fight you'll ever watch.

Review

Opening scene, outstanding. The piece meal storytelling attempting to tell you why this matters is so unneeded that it is a distraction to the rest of the story that should have played a bigger part. The sad part is that this distraction is actually something that made the movie better for me because it hid some of absolute atrocities in the story telling. First off, all the specialized special forces school would have dropped this dude early on if he had no friends. You can't do that job on your own. You aren't Superman or a space robot. However, according to this movie, that is exactly what Alan Ritchson is. A dude who cannot die. The team themselves is so stupid. They took all the stereotypes from every war movie and placed them in 4-5 characters and none of them have anything special.

The action is fun, but such a story waste. I am going to give a small story element away just to prove a point. There is a scene where the wannabe hero stereotype runs toward the enemy to grab ammo for the 50 Cal machine gun on the truck. First, not 50 Cal ammo. Secondly, after grabbing what is at most a couple of hundred round, the machine gun shoots thousands of rounds. The truck gets destroyed before the run out of ammo. So it was completely wasteful. In this same scene, one of the team is given a rifle and told "Shoot between the plates" like this dude is going to shoot a rifle round hanging out of a truck moving at 60 mph (96.56 km/h) down a bumpy hill and hit between "steel" plates. This type of unlimited firing without reloading is a major no-no. This isn't Heat from the 80s. We can just fire until the Second Coming. This is nothing compared to the absolutely lazy writing in initially calling Alan's character a Staff Sergeant during INDOC and then a Corporal at the end.

Ok enough frustration. With all of that I was still entertained as it is a crazy action movie. It has a lot of fun action and a bunch of cool explosions.

My Rating

This movie made me so upset while watching. The CGI showed the robot shooting right through someone, and they weren't heart, but others were 100% sliced and diced. There were also a dozen times Alan should have died or leg broke, and he just gets up. It is completely unbelievable. If you want a stupid movie with gratuitous gore and limited story to watch on an airplane? This is that exact movie. But, maybe you shouldn't especially since the implied last line is they are going to call him "War Machine" rather than 81, which he has gone by the entire movie. It is a 4, there are too many sins.

Parental Rating

No chance. Not a single iota. An incredible amount of gore that isn't needed or really makes sense at times. Significant amount of language. I don't even need to bring up the fact that there is no sex or family elements. Rejected so quickly by both of my parents.
