Tropic Thunder

This is very much a "teen" movie. The jokes are juvenile at best, and the story is kind of lack luster. I mean this is a very popular movie and I just don't think it should have survived, the way it has.

Synopsis

A group of actors are working to make a movie, but cannot make it feel real. The director attempts to add some realism by pushing them beyond their comfort zone, but accidentally takes them to a live war zone.

Review

I am not a Ben Stiller fan, and it is mainly because of movies like this. Barely scratching the surface of a plot, even if you want to call it besmirching of the entertainment industry and how it treats people. I can see that plot line, I appreciate it, and I don't think it does anything to present the actual issue and make you care.

The acting in stereotypes is dead on. One really arrogant guy pushing forward getting everyone hurt. Another dude playing cool but freaking out. Another one who actually did the work and understands what is going on. And the last one who just wants to blow it up.

My Rating

I do not enjoy this movie but once in a blue moon. Honestly, the only reason I watch it is that it is so quotable, to include it being mentioned in movies like 13 Hours, which is a household favorite. Outside of that, it is a crap movie. I give it a 6.

Parental Rating

No way on this earth would my parents watch this. The amount of language would make them turn it off so fast that lightning would struggle to keep up. Rejected by both.

Lethal Weapon

Lots of language, some red food dye and scenes of torture, and nudity. The family element is a trope more than plot. So if we count up the issues on our hand, 1 + 1 + 1 + 1, we will see that this equals a rejected by both statement for this movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean

This movie is 21 years old. 21 years and still has some outstanding CGI that holds up. The underwater scene and the scene with Sparrow and Barbosa fighting in the cave are absolutely seamless. The phasing from human to skeleton isn't jankie and just really holds up.

Wick is Pain

The beginning is slow. I have talked a lot about the realism of the John Wick series and if you know, then you can see how it worked out here. Something super simple made there entire setup more real.
