I enjoyed the movie and the acting was good. There wasn't as much suspense as the trailers presented or as previous movies and waiting for that is still happening. It never happens. That is what really hurts this movie and because of that ...

Synopsis

While attending a concert with his daughter, a serial killer realizes that the concert is a setup to catch him, and he works to escape without anyone knowing.

Review

Josh Hartnett does a great job when he is being the killer and is a little weird when talking to his daughter while investigating. It is awkward, and I think that is intentional to his character who is a planner and this wasn't planned. Ariel Donoghue does a fantastic job as well. She reminds me of every single T-Swift fan that I have ever seen.

I know a huge complaint about the movie was that it felt like an advertisement for M. Night Shyamalan's daughter. While there is quite a bit of screen time for the performances, I think this complaint really falls flat when you compare what is happening with concerts by Taylor Swift who this is based on. Very large productions with surprise guest and other things like that are big in the show and this movie uses them as plot points. A hidden door is shown as a means of escape. Little pieces of interaction have long term consequences for the team as they move forward. I understand the argument, but I don't think it is enough to be justified. Feels more like people just hating on M. Night Shyamalan because they can.

I thought the story was well done for the most part. The ending gets a little weird with him take some taser shots like a champion and keeps running. He also seems to be stronger than trained individuals which doesn't make sense completely. Also, for being a M. Night Shyamalan film the twist, if there was one, was very mundane and boring. Not what I expected.

My Rating

I like M. Night Shyamalan's movies. From Signs to Lady in the Water, I have in the past enjoyed them. This wasn't any different. I enjoyed the movie and the acting was good. There wasn't as much suspense as the trailers presented or as previous movies and waiting for that is still happening. It never happens. That is what really hurts this movie and because of that this movie is a 7.

Parental Rating

There is a little blood, but nothing really crazy. Language is limited and there is no sex. I don't think that my parents would watch this for its content. My dad would on a plane which is exactly where I watched it. My mom on the other end would not watch it at all. Overall, I think that my dad would Approve and Mom would reject.
