The Tylenol Murders

Synopsis

In the 1980s, three people in a single family died on the same day after taking Tylenol. This event triggered a massive hunt for a possible murderer and an investigation that has never been finished.

Review

I knew that it was this event that created the foil over the top of the pill bottle, but under the lid. Why do I know that? I have no idea I think my mom talked about it at some time when I was a kid. Probably when she was telling me to get a different pill package because it might be tampered with.

Outside of that, I knew nothing and if there ever was a documentary that could and would convince me that it didn't go the way it initially said it happened it would be this. They do an outstanding job of presenting the evidence at hand, for the most part, at the time of the findings. There is the obvious confusion and lack of understanding that is perpetrated throughout the documentary as it probably was at the time. This is what keeps you watching. It is that idea of "Oh, that is crazy. Hold on, what about this?" and the entire time you are trying to figure it out along with the US.

I will say that there is one part of the show that I understand why they did it, I just think that it doesn't help the continuation of the story. What I mean is that there is a ending story that appears to be a plan to continue the investigation. The way it is presented just feels like a pitch. Like they are trying to sell the idea that it wasn't the guy they arrested.

My Rating

I enjoyed this. It was well told and interesting. The idea that a mistake happened at the factory makes 1000x more sense than some random dude did it without evidence. However, without the evidence, which was for sure destroyed, we will never know. It was a little repetitive and intentionally confusing so for that I am giving it a 6.

Parental Rating

I am not sure how my parents would take this. They lived it, with 2 kids in fact. So I am sure they know most of the details. I will have to ask them about it. I am going to say approved by both because there is no language, no sex, and no blood.
