I kept seeing this book pop up on social media and the main thing I have to say is that they undersold it. Which is surprising since I thought it was being oversold. However, whether you are watching this as a member of the past, a member of the audience, or being told this epic by your grandmother, this story will suck you In.

My goodness. What an outstanding book. So let me attempt to tell you what it is about. The story follows a boy being told stories of his homeland by his grandmother as she is dying. However, part of the way through the story he is taken to the "inverted theater," which is part of the mythology, and he is watching the stories his grandmother told him on the stage. However, there is also a first hand account of the people in the story. It can get a bit confusing, but if you think about it as reading a script rather than a book, you'll be fine. I didn't have an issue while listening to this book on Audible.

The story is outstanding. There is a portion of the story where some of the players meet up and have a conversation about being proud of coming from the place these stories come from. The protagonist is honest and says he doesn't think about it too often and he is neither ashamed or proud to be there. It really made me think about where my family came from and how I feel about it. It is a interesting thought process to have.

I know that sometimes getting into a new book world is difficult especially when there is fantasy elements and you have to learn the powers that be. However, this is really well done in this book. Instead of this thought process of trying to figure it out, they do a good job of just letting it flow through the book. The actions are ingrained rather than thrust at you.

Rating

This will be one of the best books you will ever read hands down. Some of the subject material deals more in the alternative, so that is something to know going in, I sure didn’t. However, it didn’t take away from the book and was short in duration. This was an outstanding book and while I didn’t rush back to finish it, I really enjoyed it. I want to give it a 10, but it is just off the mark.
