The Rings of Power

I know that people are mad about this show because it doesn't match The Samerillion or something along those lines. I haven't read any of the books. I tried once in middle/high school and just got lost in the descriptions. I will give it an attempt in the next decade or so.

The Rings of Power

Review

I know that people are mad about this show because it doesn't match The Samerillion or something along those lines. I haven't read any of the books. I tried once in middle/high school and just got lost in the descriptions. I will give it an attempt in the next decade or so. All that aside, I enjoy the story. I know where it ends, and I really do appreciate getting to know more. However, what is really hard to conceptualize is that this is thousands of years before those books/movies.

Something in the show that is hard to handle is the pacing. They are telling so much story that I personally think do nothing to expand the story for people like me. What I mean is that you really get lost in the characters, more than Game of Thrones, trying to understand who they are and why they matter. The fact that I remember Isiludar as being the dude that doesn't kill Souron at the beginning The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring is because I watched it 10+ times. Some of the people are supposed to be important I am sure, but I have no idea, and I don't have the patience to care because there is too much exposition pushed on you.

The action is pretty good. I really enjoy the fight scenes and there are honestly some outstandingly beautiful scenes as well. I have always loved the Elvish Archers, so much so that it is hard for me not to want to be an archer when I play RPGs like Dragon Age 2. There is one scene with an archer and one not with an archer, that are super cool.

My Rating

I want to really like this show. It just drags from one episode to the next with very little happening from my perspective. The action is there, but not that eventful, minus a couple episodes at the end, to make it a driving force in the show. The cast is really good in their roles, especially knowing that this was filmed during a writers strike. All that aside, it is a snail of a show. I am giving it a 7, but that is barrowing on nostalgia. I hope they get 3 seasons they want, to see how it ends, but I'll wait I think.

Parental Rating

There isn't any language so that is good? The violence has this corruption to it, making the blood black. I am not sure if that makes it better for my mom though. No sex or nudity. There are a lot of allegory, morals, and lessons buried deep in the show, but that isn't going to bring my mom to the table. I also think that my dad is going to skip it personally as he didn't enjoy the movies. However, based on the rules, Dad approves and Mom rejects.
