The Old Guard 2
Lastly, the story. What made for mystery in the first movie, just becomes plot holes in the second. Honestly, the whole story is more about pride, arrogance, and deceit than it is about immortals trying to survive. There are a couple new introductions to new immortals which is a cool idea, but...

Synopsis
Andy, now mortal continues to lead her group to protect earth. However, a new threat has appeared, a long-lost immortal who has a vendetta.
Review
Lets talk about the fight scenes. While they looked cool, they were distracted by whip-pans and lens flares so much that you couldn't see 90% of the choreography. Also, they felt like there was a lot more style than substance. I talked about in The Old Guard that there was a level of realism in their fights like John Wick, that is complete out the window now.
The cast also feels lazy in this movie. Less dedicated to the story and I think that is because 5 years has past since the first one, and I am not sure their heart is in it. Uma Thurman is just as lackluster and the eminent focus on Andy means you'd expect her to be awesome. She isn't. It is a rinse and repeat move list from the first movie and it is exactly the same moves over and over again throughout the film. Honestly, give me the two dudes from the Crusades and their love story and fighting pair over the rest of them. I actually cared about them.
Lastly, the story. What made for mystery in the first movie, just becomes plot holes in the second. Honestly, the whole story is more about pride, arrogance, and deceit than it is about immortals trying to survive. There are a couple new introductions to new immortals which is a cool idea, but there isn't enough information about them to really give us anything other than this feeling that they have superpowers. Quynh is probably the most believable addition to the story. We see her show up at the end of the first movie and for being at the bottom of the ocean for 500+ years, she wants to burn the world to the ground. I get it and can get behind it. However, all of that anger is pushed aside by slow pacing, a story that is incomplete in this movie, and characters that are forgettable.
My Rating
What a let-down from the first movie. I appreciate that they continued to build on the universe, however the pacing sucked, and the fights were flash and sparkles. A forced ending to set up another movie isn't what is needed, and 30 minutes more would have enabled them to round out the movie rather than take it out by the knees. Honestly, this feels as empty as the last Underworld movie, which was one of my favorites and I also thought that one required 30 minutes more to be great. With scores in the 30%-50%, I don't expect it to get the third without some begging. I am giving it a 6. Barely.
While writing this review and making the stamped image, I just saw more and more about how bad it was. I am downgrading it to a 5 because, the story in this doesn't live up to the last one. Plus, it doesn't really add anything to itself from beginning to end.
Parental Rating
Lots of blood, there is a lot more hand-to-hand combat this time, and some language, this isn't going to win awards with my parents. Again, no sex which is good for my mom, but I think she'd be out long before. I think I have to say approved by Dad based on the rules and rejected by Mom.
