The Invisible Man
I constantly feel like I am being lied to by her. So I understand the frustration. I don't mind the rest of the cast's acting, but there are some story choices that make no sense. The girl that is there gets slapped so hard and I believe her from that one scene than I do anything else
Synopsis
After fleeing an abusive relationship, Cecilia is convinced that her ex is stalking. This escalates to claiming that she is being haunted after her friends and family are attacked, by a man that committed suicide.
Review
This is better movie when you look at how they made the tech work, than the actual movie. There are some really cool scenes where they invisible man is doing some incredible things and that is also where you start to lose the audience.
This guy is invisible throwing people over tables. Not with a force that they roll, but legit look like Thor hit them with a hammer. Then he also picks them up by their neck 4 feet over their head? This dude isn't that big and strong and the final scene shows really how weak he is. It is crazy frustrating.
When you look at reviews for this movie, everyone praises it being a good movie with one exception usually. Elizabeth Moss. I have been watching The Handmaids Tale for a long time and just can't get through it. Because of her. She has the same face all the time. No change in her emotion changes her face. I constantly feel like I am being lied to by her. So I understand the frustration. I don't mind the rest of the cast's acting, but there are some story choices that make no sense. The girl that is there gets slapped so hard and I believe her from that one scene than I do anything else that happens with anyone else.
I almost forgot to talk about this as a horror movie. I was so distracted by the crap writing. From a horror movie perspective, there is some great "the call is coming from inside the house" type vibes. They do a good job of just having things done right off screen or just in the corner of focus that makes you feel like the invisible man is always there. That is where I really enjoyed the movie. Is it to the level of horror, I think it could be in the psychological horror genre pretty easily.
My Rating
I think the writing is something that just tanks this movie from and look back perspective. We have the super strength, which is an issue, but we also have a cop has to do the right thing and throw his friend in jail when he doesn't believe her, but when something wild happens at the end, he just goes along with it even when he sees the truth. Maybe it is guilt for not believing her, but I think it is to give this movie a nice bow when it shouldn't have one. IMDB gives this a 7.1 and usually they are hard graders. However, I think the 7 is right on the money.
Parental Rating
Language, extreme physical violence and emotional abuse. While I think it does tell a story about how when woman report things they are not believed in domestic abuse situation at times, this is so outlandish that I think that argument goes out the window and takes my Mom with you. I am going to say rejected by both.
