Review

This has all the hallmarks of an early 2000s movie. Yoked dude who doesn't like one other guy. Then you have the strong female character who is just one of the guys. I don't say that as a dig to Michelle Rodriguez, because she is for sure one of the best parts of this movie. The acting from the rest of them is ok? It isn't crazy bad, or good honestly. It "Meh" most of the time.

The action is a little hard to stomach sometimes. I mean there are a couple scenes with dude on motorcycles with Uzi's, and they aren't looking where they are going for maybe a couple of minutes all while shooting. They also never have to reload, which for a movie makes sense, but in John Wick Chapter 2 or John Wick Chapter 3 we did get good motorcycle combat. Why do I bring those movies up for a movie that was made 20 years prior? Because they guys in that movie were stunt coordinators on other films at that time and people said that the realism wouldn't sell tickets…

The story is probably one of the better things about this movie. As an adult, it is hard to make friends with people who have grown up together. Think about trying to join a group of people that have spent decades together playing and getting in trouble. Especially in this ride or die group. So when you do get in, then giving up the loyalty would be very difficult. Let alone if you just respect the guy you were brought in to bring down.

My Rating

Like I said, this movie isn't great. It was better back then, but the acting has not aged well. It is all the late 90s early 2000s cliché's in movies/pop culture that makes all millennials look back at that time and shudder. So I don't think it has aged well, but I am still very much entertained. I am giving this a 7.

Parental Rating

This movie is so far outside my mom's content that even thought it is all about "family." With that, my dad would also not really be interested. While he appreciates cars, car racing isn't really his thing at all. Combine that and add in the general woman in skimpy clothing + a scene of some heavy petting, and the typical language that covers PG-13 movies and you will see both my parents to exit stage right for this movie. Rejected by both.
