The Day of the Jackal

Synopsis

A master sniper takes a shot that is believed to be impossible. MI6 investigates as the Jackal takes on a new target that will have worldwide ramifications.

Review

This show was very good. Watching this after Lioness, I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or not as it has similar premises. However, I was wrong and it is an outstanding show.

My biggest cheers for this are Eddie Redmayne and his language skills and the gun fights. I know that he is just memorizing lines, but he had a decent accent that even my half-deaf ears could hear. The gun fights didn't have a prolonged engagement and all felt very realistic. This is especially nice coming from Lioness which had wrong sounds and bad acting.

The overall story is good. It is a remake of a movie from the 70s, but turning this into a TV show allowed us to engage with the characters and honestly learn to cheer for the baddie and get mad at the goodie.

As this is a UK TV show, that means that there are true hour long episodes with lots of drama and detail. So be prepared for that which does affect the pacing as well as some very campy tropes for where the story goes.

My Rating

This was an excellent espionage thriller. The story and acting are very well done and there wasn't a person in my house that wasn't excited about the next episode. I am so excited for the second season. This is a 9.

Parental Rating

There is a lot of language and violence. No sex on screen, but some implied actions that took place that are talked about. I do not think the violence that is there, or the blood will stop my mom from watching or the language from my dad from watching. I am going to say disapproved by Mom based on the rules, but she would watch it, and approved by Dad even with the language.
