Brief Review

This book was so informative. I knew quite a few of the stories that happened in the background, but nothing like this. The presentation of the book really does a fantastic job of telling the ins and outs of the events that took place. Add in the questions that are asked to bring out the deepness of the team. The book is so well written that you really do feel like you are listening to a podcast.

Why I Read this book

I loved the TV show, so why wouldn't I want to read a book about the behind the scenes.

In-Depth Review

I really enjoyed this book. I have always believed that the cast had an amazing relationship outside of acting and this book shows the immense level of that. I really appreciated that Kailey and Johnny were interviewed together because even after a relationship not going the distance, they are incredible friends. This friendship really shows at the end of the show when they are just full of love.

I am not well versed in the parts the of the crew and everything that goes into a TV show or movie. However, I really appreciate the amount of conversation that was given to the writing of the show. Part of this is because the show runners were part of the writing staff, the other is because the cast was so incredibly appreciative of the faithfulness to the characters that the writing staff had. I loved learning about the complexity and decision-making that went into it. There also was the costume design and casting that lead so much to the success of the show.

The last thing I want to comment on is the actual writing of the book. As this was done in an interview style, I wasn't sure how it was going to work out. I think reading it, it might have been harder to understand, but listening to it on Audible did allow for me to hear the back and forth, allowing me to understand it a bit more. I do think there are portions of the book that are a little too expansive when I would have loved to hear more from people like Kunal. Personal opinion there though.

Rating

I loved the show. It is easily one of my favorites. I recently had a conversation with the co-hosts of the podcast about it and there was a general agreement that for 24-episode, 12-year show, the number of filler episodes was limited, and the misses are way below the par of most sitcoms. We compared it to Friends, which I am actively watching for the first time ever right now, and this is far better. This book is well written and enjoyable, so if you like the show, you'll like this book. I'll give it an 8.
