The Accountant

Synopsis

A math savant is hired for a job that puts him and a new friend in danger. All the while, the Treasury Department is looking for him after his history of working with criminal organizations.

Review

This came out years ago, 2016, but it still holds up. The explanations of Autism, especially in these days where inclusivity is more important than some other things. However, I think that this portion of the story is so pivotal and so well done in this movie that it makes him almost a superhero.

Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal are outstanding in this movie. They play their characters and brothers to each other so well that you wouldn't think otherwise. The anger and the silly laughs of understanding of each other is just great. I can't forget Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons. JK is always great in his role and the hat near the end is a solid choice. Anna is just so good. Playing a nerdy accountant that is lost in the sauce.

With the announcement of the 2nd and possible 3rd in the series being greenlit, my wife and I were talking about what we expect. We know that Jon Bernthal will get a larger role, which makes sense story wise. My wife made a comment of wanting Anna K. to come back and have a larger role, but when we talked about it we agreed that he story ended well. It was a complete story so there is no need to have her come back. However, since she played such a role in his life, I'd really like some acknowledgement of her in the next one with a call/email or something.

My Rating

This is a great movie. Great action, great funny moments (not bent over laughing, but a good chuckle), and just great acting. We have watched this movie a lot and I am surprised that I did not write this review last year or the year prior, but I am glad that the announcement of the next one made us watch it and then write this. Easy 9.

Parental Rating

While there is a family element to this movie, the language and violence are a big detractor for my mom to watch this. It is what she would want with me and my brothers, minus the fist fight. My dad would watch this since there is great action and the language is there, but not a lot. Dad approves, Mom rejects.
