Supergirl

I think Milly Alcock does a great job in her role though. I don't have an issue with her role or how she plays it, but the writing was miserable. The amount of cliché, tag lines, one-liners that are way off the mark, and just lazy characters is kind of miserable.

Synopsis

Review

This is a terrible movie. The entire movie is more about her choosing to be drunk rather than use her powers. She doesn't ever believe in the mission from the kid. She is an incredibly selfish person from beginning to end. The story is honestly kind of terrible and serves zero purpose. I don't know how James Gunn signed on for this. I'd be interested to see if he had a different vision than what came out.

I think that might be the biggest issues between what came out and me/everyone else that hasn't read the comics. There is so much not happening that I am left wondering why I care. At any time, if Supergirl had used all of her powers she could have ended the movie 30 minutes earlier, probably even more. However, she is just lazy. Lobo doesn't do anything, which might have been in his character, but why introduce him then?

My Rating

So what is there to say? This was entertaining for something you'd catch on TV. It feels like one of the old straight to streaming/made for TV movies. The amount of CGI also just feels cheap, ironically, when there isn't any depth to the characters. I know that there are probably people thinking this would be on the level with Superman, which it wasn't (I promise I'll watch that soon). This at best is a 6, but I see the argument for a 5.

Parental Rating

There is some language and quite a bit of blood. There is also a pretty heavy amount of sexual assault implications for a PG-13 movie. A surprising amount. I think there could be an argument for my Mom that she might watch it as it is about protecting family, but it would be a hard chance of that. I think that this is most likely rejected by both.
