Star Wars The Fallen Star

The Book in 1 Sentence

A disappointing story that doesn't deviate from opening salvo to the expected ending.

Brief Review

I am honestly not sure if this series is written for young adults, but it feels like it. The plot is set before you and the book never deviates from it. No real surprises, but there is some decent character growth. It might be forced, but it isn't bad.

Why I Read this book

I started the series when the first book came out and thought this was the end of this story line.... it isn't.

In-Depth Review (Favorite Quotes)

So the story is something that is mentioned The Acolyte and so I was hoping it would be a good story other than a political devastation. I feel like I am being hard on this book, but I just wasn't pulling me in to finish the book. I knew what was going to happen and was not surprised by the end result.

Recently I talked about this with some friends, but the need for additional content, in this instance I am talking about books outside the series, to complete the story is bad practice. This is where I think this book series has failed. At no time do I feel that I am missing story, but I do feel that I am missing context to relationships and just some depth. I know for sure the "Drengir" are something that is mentioned in a different book, but not in this series. At least not in its full explanation, in fact I do not think this book ever really explains what they are other than "they feed on all human life" or something along those lines. If you look at picture 2 in this Reddit post, you can see there is a large section of comics that talk about them, but they are just given a pass-through in this book.

Before I get to my final rating, if you want to see a differing opinion, look at this YouTube video from the Star War Lads. Fair warning, it is about an hour and I didn't watch all of it.

Rating

I really think that this book could have been better. It just seems here to fill pages without the depth to make you care. No emotion, no surprise, nothing but frustration for a lackluster book. Just like Star Wars Outlaws , if you want Star Wars content, then this book will fill that void. However, don't expect any revelation to the rest of the universe other than one particular event happening. It was a disappointing 6.
