I think one of the best parts of this movie for me is one of the ending scenes where there is a conversation with a couple of the characters. They are talking about how this even happened and the conversation presents the idea that they are all in part responsible.

Synopsis

Based on the true story of the investigation by the Boston Globe into the assault of children by the Catholic Church and its subsequent cover-up.

Review

In the litany of things that will disillusion people of the church, this for sure is one of the biggest ones. At the end of the movie, there is a list of cities that there has been confirmed cover-ups of assault of a minor and that is probably a couple of hundreds. Not all of them in the US either. The presentation of such a heinous and gruesome act by those involved and those there to help cover it up is done with the upmost care. The movie also works hard to mark victims as victims and the perpetrators as the monsters they are.

We are going to move on from the circumstance that brought us this movie and just talk about the movie itself. Mark Ruffalo and Michael Keaton should have gotten multiple awards for their performances. Ruffalo is just transformative in his appearance and performance. Just watch his body mannerisms, the way he moves his mouth to change the sound and then watch him in an interview or in [[The Avengers]] and you'll see something extra in this.

I think one of the best parts of this movie for me is one of the ending scenes where there is a conversation with a couple of the characters. They are talking about how this even happened and the conversation presents the idea that they are all in part responsible. There were rumblings for years about the events, the paper published items about it, but it was just another news story.

My Rating

I was in undergrad when I was told about this movie. In my communication class, which I remember absolutely NOTHING about other than this recommendation. However, this recommendation is one of the best movie recommendations I've ever been given. This is a 9.

Parental Rating

I am not sure how they will like this movie. There is some language, the content is heavy without showing or describing anything graphic, and there is no violence. I think that they would watch the movie though. I am going to say approved by both. It is right on the edge for them.
