Synopsis

An overly political and biased movie about a great man who did a lot of good things for Americans and the World at large.

Review

Let me start off by saying it was an informative movie. I knew his work with Gorbachev thanks to books like The Main Enemy and his relationship with Margaret Thatcher thanks to The Spy and the Traitor, but a lot of the others items I didn't know.

With that though, some of it was pointless to the movie. The entire fake Russian account making Reagan to be some god to them was so stupid and honestly made me really upset because it wasn't needed. It's a lie that is even more frustrating when you look at the producers and their main complaint about Hollywood is the forced political stories in movies and lies. The lie in the movie makes you feel that the rest of the story is fictional so you begin to wonder what backdoor rooms conversations were real. The other parts that I feel were more for dramatization were some of the parts of him as a kid. It wasn't needed.

Dennis Quaid should be commended for his work to get the voice and facial ticks right. It is incredible how accurate it feels. However, the rest of the cast is kind of forgettable or excessively over the top. What makes it even worse is that to age them, they use pounds of makeup and due to the close up shots, you could see it. It looked beyond unnatural.

The story is the savior of this movie. It is well told, a little long, but well told. It covers the highlights, but skips some relatively important things in his life that should have been a part of the movie, but it doesn't take or add from it so it is fine.

My Rating

I am hating on this movie, but these things just really stuck out to me. I was entertained by it as was my wife. We both felt that the acting was either excellent or terrible. It just is so overly political and one-sided. He is the perfect man in this movie. Never does anything wrong. I understand that is part of movies these days, but this was over the top for sure. It is a 6, unfortunately.

Parental Rating

So the language is very limited, the kissing is very Christian Movie acceptable, and there is no violence. While the movie is telling a story of politics, my mom loved West Wing. So approved by both.
