Prometheus
You have to know that this is a prequel to really understand some of the significance of what you are watching. However, this story still leads to some great questions, cliffhangers, and story that makes you want to go watch the others. That is what a movie should do.
Synopsis

Review

Also, Michael Fassbender's presence in the movie is just outstanding. Honestly one of the creepier things in this mystery/thriller/horror movie. I'd put it closer to thriller personally, but it can fall into a lot of places. Back to Fassbender, he just does a great job of being on the edge of normal. He is funny, creepy, and so human that while you know he is a droid the whole movie, you just can't see it. The rest of the casts does a great job as well with Noomi Rapace. I don't think I know her from anything else and that is a shame as she was a joy to watch.
The story is also so good. Creating so much additional depth to an already glowing mythology that you really do appreciate with where they started. The "Engineers," the first iteration of alien, and all the corporate overlord shenanigans are just such great pieces to the plot that you are not really lost in the sauce on this.
I have complained about CGI in both AlienΒ³ and even worse in Alien Resurrection, due to designs like this:
to something realistic and visceral like this
Granted, I know that almost 20 years have passed between the two, but what makes this look better is the physical and real the rest of this movie. Practical sets can go a long way to making the weaker parts look good.
My Rating
This was my first Aliens movie. I think because Alien Resurrection was so poorly received that when I came of age, that was the last one that was around and no one liked it, so I avoided the series. However, Ridley Scott is one of my favorite director's after Gladiator and so I was happy to watch this when it came out in 2012. The story is outstanding and really provides some lingering questions that is what allowed Alien Romulus to exist. Because of the story, the special effects, and that gnawing cliffhanger, this is an amazing 8.
Parental Rating
So I have previously said there is a lot of blood that just "gushes" in other movies and the blood in this movie isn't gushing, but make sense and is there for a reason. There is no nudity and no sex. Violence and language are the biggest issues. I don't think, I say that knowing the answer, that my mom would ever watch this movie. My dad has watched it and enjoyed it. I am going to say rejected by Mom and approved by Dad.
