Review
This is another of Denis Villeneuve fantastic movies. I don't ever remember it coming out, but this was over a decade ago. This however, should have been a movie that should have been seen in theaters.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman are so good. Actually, you have Viola Davis and Terrence Howard as well that do so well. This is a crazy good cast for it to be pushed to non-memory for a lot of people.
The story is excellent and while I had a feeling about how it was going to end, I was thrown through the loop and had to second guess the ending. It is so well written with no real sign post that I loved.
The pacing was a bit slow, it is a drama. The mystery is what keeps you in, but there were times when I wanted to skip 10 seconds ahead at time. I never did, but I wanted to.
My Rating
As you can tell, I enjoyed this movie. It made my 4-hour flight fly, no pun intended, by. The acting was outstanding, and I feel for Keller's actions. I get it. Hugh's performance for some of those scenes just were beyond Oscar worthy. This is a 9.
Parental Rating
Language, scenes of torture, and kidnapping. Also, some dealing with mental illness. The gore isn't crazy, but there are some demented scenes that might make it hard for my mom to watch. My dad would not like the language, but I think he would put it aside. I am going to say approved by both because this is about a family working to find a missing member.
